Lower density base stocks increase profitability. Lubricant base oils are purchased by weight and formulated lubricants are often sold by volume. Therefore, lower density means more liquid volume per pound or kilogram of base oil.
Next generation EsterTec VSP Esters offer a significant advantage: they are 5% lower in density (on average) compared to standard polyol esters.
What does this mean for you?
- Increased Yield: Get more final product from the same weight of base oil.
- Reduced Costs: Lower your cost per gallon and boost your profit margins.
- Logistics Savings: Reduce transportation freight costs due to lighter loads (depending on shipping methods).
- A novel molecular structure and unique production process set it apart from traditional esters
• Made from standard, globally available raw materials—ensuring supply chain reliability
• Features high stability resulting from vicinal ester positioning at the molecular level
• Steric hindrance enhances oxidative stability and performance
• Secondary alcohols on adjacent carbons significantly improve hydrolytic stability
- Reduced Friction and Wear
– Simplify formulations by lowering additive levels in metalworking, automotive, and industrial lubricants
– Meet the demanding EP/AW needs of EVs with heavier loads, higher torque, and advanced bearing designs - Exceptional Hydrolytic Stability
– Ideal for applications with water interaction: metalworking emulsions, ICE and hydrogen ICE engine oils, HFO refrigerants, and paper machine oils - Lower Density
– Lighter weight means better energy efficiency in EV coolants, hydraulic fluids, and mobile equipment
– Reduce freight costs on both base stocks and finished lubricants - Low Volatility
– Enhance performance in low-viscosity applications like 0W engine oils and high-speed EV motors
– Extend fluid life in heat-intensive uses such as bearing greases, mist lubrication, engine oils and dielectric fluids
EsterTec VSP esters from Zschimmer & Schwarz make that possible.
Synthetic esters are sold by weight and finished lubricants are typically sold by volume. VSP esters with 5% lower density provide you more usable product per pound. Benefits include:
- More gallons and liters per pound or kilogram — higher yield from the same weight
- Lower shipping costs — lighter loads reduce freight expenses
- Better margins — greater profitability per gallon
- Longer life and Better Lubrication– Best-in-class stability plus superior protection from friction and wear
- It’s a simple change that delivers measurable value.
Let’s talk about how EsterTec can make your formulations more efficient — and more profitable.
